Our Story

Austswim (The Australian Council for the Teaching of Swimming and Water Safety) was established in 1979 in Australia to professionalise swim teaching and water safety instruction, providing a standardised accreditation for teachers of swimming and water safety. Its Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety qualification has become an industry benchmark within Australia and internationally

 

Austswim Singapore & South East Asia Regional Trainer

Tan Weide (often described as an Austswim trainer/presenter) has been a major figure in delivering Austswim courses in Singapore and the Southeast Asia region. He has led many batches of the Teacher of Swimming & Water Safety (TSW) course in Singapore—often cited with batch numbers into the 60s—indicating a substantial output of certified teachers under his leadership. 

Tan Weide is recognised as one of the award-winning Austswim trainers, having been highlighted at the 2025 Austswim Awards of Excellence for his contributions, including being awarded at an international level for excellence in aquatic education.

His work goes beyond course delivery to mentoring and inspiring swim teachers, with emphasis on child safety, competence in teaching, and drowning prevention—core tenets of Austswim’s mission
